New Feature - Add Fillups Via Text Message

We just copied out into production a brand new feature we are very excited about. You now have the ability to add your fillups on the road via text message! We understand everyone may not have data packages for their phones so we developed a solution that allows you to add your fillups via text message to our fuel mileage tracking system. Below you will find a detailed explanation on how this feature works and how to setup your account to utilize this feature.

First lets review how to enable this feature for your account:

1. Log into the MPG tracking portal and click on "Settings".
2. You will notice a new field "Cell Phone:" and there is a link "[Add Text Message Fillup Feature]". Click on the link.
3. Step 1: Enter Your Cell Phone Number Into Our Database: Simply input your 10 digit cell phone number into the field and click "Next".
4. Final Step: Add Phone Number to Zeep Systems: Please read ALL of the text on screen BEFORE entering your phone number and confirming. After you have completed the on screen instructions you can click finished.

If you completed everything correctly your account is now ready to add fillups via text message. Please review the instructions below on how to send the the text message with the fillup data.

The number you will need to send the text message to is:

Next you need the keyword:

fillup

Finally the data format:

This depends on how many vehicles you have in the tracking system. So lets go through a few examples.

You only have 1 vehicle in the MPG tracking portal:

"fillup distance gallons pricepergallon"

example text message to send: "fillup 300 10.25 2.63"
example text message response: "fillup: Successfully Added Fillup: MPG=29.27"

You have MORE than 1 vehicle in the MPG tracking portal:

"fillup vehiclenumber distance gallons pricepergallon"

example text message to send: "fillup 2 300 10.25 2.63"
example text message response: "fillup: Successfully Added Fillup: MPG=29.27"

***Vehicle number is determined by the order in which they appear on the "My Vehicles" tab. First vehicle listed, vehiclenumber = 1, Second vehicle listed, vehiclenumber=2 etc ***


Thats basically it. This will add fillups for your vehicles. When you log into the MPG tracking portal you will want to edit the fillup if you need to adjust the city/highway percent. We default it to 50/50 for all fillups added via text message. Also in the examples above we do not include the format for adding notes and location for the fillup. Please see below for how you would go about adding a note and description via the text message. Again notes and location are optional when sending the text message.

If for some reason the data isn't consist with a fillup or in the wrong format you will receive this message:

"ERROR: The data you entered was not in the correct format! Please try again."

We encourage you review this how-to again before trying to add another fillup. We also encourage you to continue to keep track of the fillup manually like you have been just in case of a problem. We are still in the early beta stages with this feature and their could be some unexpected results. However we have been using the feature for a few weeks now with no problems. I started to sign up for the texting feature, but it says that I will receive up to four texts per week. Your instructions mention an ad attached to the reply message after updating, nothing about 4/week.

Yes it does say that. I'm working with the people at zeep mobile to remove that text. When you register for a "shortcode" you have to enter on the application the number of estimated text messages per week. So they entered 4. They are working on a way for us to remove that from the initial text message. Myself and 2 others are currently using the feature and we have not received a single message unless we send the text to add the fillup. You will then ONLY get 1 in return that tells you it was successfull and your calculated MPG for the trip.

Hey all, Just a brief question.

Above you outlined the procedure to upload fillup information via text. It says that you're to enter the distance traveled. I would prefer to enter my odometer status instead (you never know when the wife is going to reset the trip!!). Is that possible?

You can enter the odometer reading as well. So instead of the distance in the example above, just enter your odometer reading. Make sure your mileage tracking method is set to "Odometer" within the website BEFORE sending any text messages.

Simply login and click "Settings". Then make sure your "Mileage Tracking Method:" is set to odometer. If it is already set you don't have to do anything else if you have already activated this feature within our site.
